What is Ledger Live?
Ledger Live is a desktop and mobile application designed to interact with your Ledger hardware wallet. It allows you to manage your crypto assets and verify transactions securely. The app is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
Unlike online wallets or software wallets, Ledger Live does not store private keys on your computer or mobile device. Instead, private keys remain on the secure element of the hardware wallet, ensuring that your funds are protected from hackers, malware, and phishing attempts.
Key Features of Ledger Live
1. Portfolio Management
Ledger Live provides an intuitive dashboard that shows your entire crypto portfolio at a glance. You can track:
- Your total portfolio balance
- Value changes over time
- Individual asset performance
- Fiat value conversions
This gives users a real-time view of their crypto investments without needing third-party services.
2. Secure Asset Management
You can send and receive over 5,500 crypto assets, including popular coins like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), XRP, and stablecoins like USDT and USDC. Each transaction requires verification via your Ledger hardware wallet, ensuring complete control.
3. Buy, Sell, and Swap Crypto
Ledger Live integrates with trusted third-party partners like Coinify, MoonPay, and Wyre to allow direct crypto purchases and sales within the app. You can also swap coins without needing to send them to an exchange, thanks to integrated services like Changelly and Paraswap.
4. Staking and Earning Rewards
Ledger Live supports staking for select cryptocurrencies such as:
- Ethereum (ETH)
- Tezos (XTZ)
- Cosmos (ATOM)
- Polkadot (DOT)
- Algorand (ALGO)
Users can earn passive income by delegating their tokens to validators while keeping them safely stored in their Ledger hardware wallet.
5. NFT Support
Ledger Live allows users to view and manage their Ethereum and Polygon-based NFTs. You can see your NFTs with detailed metadata and visuals directly in the app, and securely send or receive them using your Ledger device.
6. Customizable Settings
Users can set different preferences, including:
- Currency display (USD, EUR, etc.)
- Language options
- Theme settings (light/dark mode)
- Transaction fees and network settings
This personalization helps improve usability across different user levels.
